Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)
Compassion-Focused Therapy, or CFT, is a form of psychological therapy designed to help people develop and cultivate compassion for themselves and others. It was developed to support individuals who experience high levels of shame, self-criticism, or feelings of inadequacy—common barriers to mental wellbeing.
In therapy, individuals learn skills to develop self-compassion, such as mindfulness, understanding their emotions, and practising compassionate imagery and self-talk. These skills can reduce feelings of shame and self-judgment, improve emotional regulation, and promote psychological healing.
CFT is particularly helpful for people struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and difficulties linked to self-esteem. It supports building a kinder, more supportive relationship with oneself, which can enhance resilience and wellbeing over time.
